Program

Robotic technology has played a critical role in space exploration over the past 20 years and there are currently three major robotic platforms in use on the International Space Station (ISS). Surgical robotic technologies have evolved significantly from their origins in space and military research and development yet there are still many elements of space robotics applicable to surgery. This presentation will provide an overview of the application of space robotic technology to surgical robotics including lessons learned from the performance of complex robotic tasks during construction of the ISS. These lessons provide insight for the development of new surgical robotic technologies.
